Drekker Brewing

Drekker Brewing Company is one of the most innovative and recognizable breweries in American craft beer, a Fargo, North Dakota, institution that has transformed itself from a small startup into a global destination for beer lovers. Founded in 2014 by friends Mark Bjornstad, Darin Montplaisir, Jesse Feigum, and Mason Montplaisir, Drekker was built on a simple idea: create incredible beer, embrace creativity without limits, and help make their community a better place. What began as a homebrewing passion project has evolved into one of the country's most adventurous breweries, with its beers now reaching markets across the United States and internationally.

The name "Drekker" itself reflects the brewery's personality. Inspired by Viking culture, it combines references to the legendary Norse dragon ships and the spirit of gathering friends to share a drink. That sense of adventure and camaraderie continues to define the brand today. Drekker's mission goes far beyond brewing beer; the company often describes itself as being in the business of creating experiences, bringing people together, and "destroying expectations" through everything from its beer to its spaces and events.

One of Drekker's most remarkable achievements is the restoration of its historic home. The brewery occupies a beautifully revived 1880 Northern Pacific locomotive repair building, one of the oldest surviving structures in Fargo. Once abandoned and deteriorating, the building was transformed into a vibrant brewery and gathering place, preserving a piece of local history while creating something entirely new. Today, that historic space serves as the foundation for Brewhalla, Drekker's ambitious expansion that includes a food hall, event venue, hotel, and entertainment destination designed to celebrate creativity, community, and local businesses.

Drekker has become especially famous for pushing the boundaries of what beer can be. The brewery produces more than 200 different beers annually, ranging from hazy IPAs and barrel-aged stouts to wildly inventive fruit-forward sour ales. Their iconic Ectogasm IPA helped establish their reputation among hop lovers, while their cult-favorite sour series, such as Braaaaaaaains, Chonk, and PRRRT, have become some of the most sought-after releases in craft beer. These beers are known for their intense fruit character, rich texture, and fearless experimentation, helping define the modern smoothie sour category.

Creativity at Drekker extends well beyond the liquid itself. The brewery has become known for its striking artwork, imaginative branding, and immersive experiences that make every release feel like an event. Whether it's a new beer launch, a themed festival, live music, or one of their legendary taproom gatherings, Drekker approaches brewing with the belief that great beer should be accompanied by great memories.

Community remains at the heart of everything Drekker does. Since opening, the brewery has actively supported local charities and nonprofit organizations through its UnPillage initiative, donating a portion of sales to community causes and encouraging customers to participate in giving back. This commitment to improving Fargo has helped establish Drekker as more than a brewery; it has become a catalyst for local culture, entrepreneurship, and civic pride.

Today, Drekker Brewing stands as a symbol of what modern craft beer can be: adventurous, welcoming, unconventional, and deeply connected to its community. From its Viking-inspired roots and historic railroad home to its boundary-pushing beers and commitment to philanthropy, Drekker continues to prove that beer can be more than a beverage. It can be an experience, a gathering place, and a force for positive change.
