Select Tier

The Select Tier this month celebrates wines that offer a clear sense of place while remaining approachable and versatile. Spanning Italy, France, New York, and Oregon, these selections demonstrate how regional traditions and local climates continue to shape wines of character, freshness, and authenticity.

From Tuscany, Fattoria di Petrognano ‘Meme’ Chianti Superiore DOCG highlights the timeless appeal of Sangiovese, balancing vibrant fruit, savory complexity, and bright acidity in a style that remains true to Chianti’s historic identity. Casanova di Neri ‘Rosso-Irrosso di Casanova di Neri’ Sant’Antimo offers another perspective on Tuscany, crafted by one of Montalcino’s most respected estates and showcasing the elegance and accessibility that have made the region renowned worldwide.

The coastal influence of New York’s North Fork is captured in Floral Terranes Cabernet Franc, a wine that reflects the region’s growing reputation for producing vibrant, aromatic reds with freshness and restraint. Its balance of fruit, spice, and structure demonstrates why Cabernet Franc has become one of the area’s signature varieties.

From southwest France, Mary Taylor ‘Odile Delpon’ Cahors reconnects drinkers with one of Malbec’s ancestral homes. Rich in history and regional character, the wine showcases the depth and savory complexity that have defined Cahors for centuries while maintaining an inviting and food-friendly profile.

The white wines in this tier bring additional dimension to the theme. Terenzi ‘Balbino’ Vermentino from Maremma Toscana captures the Mediterranean spirit through bright citrus notes, minerality, and refreshing acidity, while Mothershucker Dry White from Oregon’s Willamette Valley reflects the cool-climate precision and energy that continue to elevate the region’s reputation for expressive white wines.

Together, these wines demonstrate how diverse regions can produce remarkably distinctive expressions while sharing a common commitment to authenticity, balance, and a strong connection to place.

Premium Tier

The Premium Tier this month highlights wines that embody precision, regional identity, and a deeper exploration of terroir. These selections come from producers whose commitment to thoughtful farming and careful winemaking allows each vineyard and appellation to speak with clarity and purpose.

Bertrand Stehelin Gigondas offers a compelling expression of the southern Rhône, where rugged hillside vineyards and Mediterranean influences create wines of concentration, structure, and savory complexity. Balancing power with refinement, it captures the essence of one of France’s most respected Rhône appellations.

From Abruzzo, Ciavolich ‘Fosso Cancelli’ Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo showcases a style that occupies a unique space between rosé and red wine. Richer and more textured than many rosés, it highlights the versatility of Montepulciano while preserving freshness and vibrancy, offering a distinctive expression of central Italy’s winemaking heritage.

The Loire Valley is represented by two producers whose philosophies center on purity and site expression. Thibaud Boudignon Anjou Blanc demonstrates why Loire Chenin Blanc continues to captivate collectors and sommeliers alike, delivering depth, tension, and remarkable precision. Jonathan Didier Pabiot Pouilly-Fumé ‘Léon’ provides a complementary perspective through Sauvignon Blanc, emphasizing minerality, freshness, and the unmistakable influence of the region’s famed limestone and flint soils.

Together, these wines illustrate how restraint, patience, and a profound respect for terroir can create bottles of remarkable complexity and elegance. Each selection rewards thoughtful exploration while remaining unmistakably connected to its place of origin.

This month’s selections highlight some of the world’s most compelling expressions of place, each offering a unique perspective on how geography, climate, and tradition shape a wine’s identity. From Tuscany’s coastal vineyards, Gaja Ca’Marcanda ‘Magari’ Toscana IGT reflects the vision of one of Italy’s most celebrated wine families, combining Bordeaux varieties with the warmth and complexity of Bolgheri’s maritime terroir. Elegant, polished, and unmistakably regional, it showcases the balance between innovation and tradition that has made the area a global benchmark.

From France’s Jura region, Domaine du Pélican Arbois ‘Grand Curoulet’ Chardonnay demonstrates why this small appellation has become one of the most exciting sources of terroir-driven white wines. Influenced by limestone-rich soils and a cool continental climate, the wine delivers remarkable precision, minerality, and depth while remaining faithful to Jura’s distinctive character.

Champagne is represented by Liebart-Régnier ‘Rubis des Grès’ Pinot Noir Brut, a grower Champagne that emphasizes vineyard expression and artisanal craftsmanship. Centered on Pinot Noir, it offers both structure and finesse, highlighting the complexity that can emerge when meticulous farming and careful cellar work allow terroir to take center stage.

Completing the selections is Yves Guegniard Domaine de la Bergerie ‘Quarts de Chaume’ Grand Cru from the Loire Valley, one of France’s most prestigious sweet wine appellations. Balancing richness with extraordinary freshness, this benchmark Chenin Blanc showcases the remarkable longevity, complexity, and elegance that have made Quarts de Chaume one of the world’s great dessert wine regions.

Together, these wines embody the philosophy of the Private Sommelier Tier: highly curated selections chosen not simply for prestige, but for their ability to tell compelling stories of place, craftsmanship, and discovery while aligning with the unique interests of each member.
