Chenin Blanc is one of the most adaptable white grapes, producing sparkling wines, crisp dry whites, and beautifully sweet botrytized wines,all from the same vine. Native to France’s Loire Valley, it thrives in regions like Vouvray and Anjou. Chenin is known for its vibrant acidity and flavors of green apple, quince, honeycomb, and lanolin. In South Africa, where it’s called “Steen,” it has become the country’s signature white grape. Chenin’s ability to age gracefully, developing nutty, complex layers over time, makes it one of the wine world’s greatest hidden treasures.
