Once a minor Bordeaux blending grape, Malbec found its superstar identity in the high-altitude vineyards of Argentina. The intense sunlight and cool nights of Mendoza give Malbec its dramatic color, velvety texture, and signature flavors of blackberry, plum, violet, and cocoa. Its inky appearance once earned it the nickname “the Black Wine of Cahors,” where it still produces brooding, tannic reds. Today, Malbec is beloved for its balance of richness and softness, bold enough for steak, smooth enough to sip on its own, and full of character that feels both exotic and approachable.
