Dark berries, wild herbs, and gentle spice define the 2023 Château Jouclary Cabardès Cuvée Tradition, a classic southern French red that beautifully bridges the Atlantic and Mediterranean worlds. Produced from estate vineyards overlooking the medieval city of Carcassonne, this expressive blend combines the structure of Merlot and Cabernet Franc with the warmth and aromatic character of Syrah and old-vine Grenache. Vinified entirely in cement to preserve freshness and purity, it offers exceptional balance, depth, and everyday drinkability.

Sensory Description:

Deep ruby in colour, the wine opens with generous aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry, redcurrant, thyme, and subtle earthy notes reminiscent of a traditional French cellar. Gentle hints of sweet spice and dried herbs add complexity to the expressive bouquet. The palate is supple and medium-bodied with juicy dark fruit, moderate tannins, and bright acidity, while the Syrah and old-vine Grenache contribute warmth and savoury spice. The finish is long, fresh, and beautifully balanced, making this an approachable yet characterful expression of Cabardès.

Winemaker’s Background:

Situated just north of the medieval city of Carcassonne on the lower slopes of the Montagne Noire, Château Jouclary occupies one of the most distinctive terroirs in southern France. The Cabardès appellation lies at the meeting point of Mediterranean and Atlantic climates, allowing both southern and Bordeaux grape varieties to thrive side by side. The Gianesini family has stewarded the estate since 1969, expanding it to 60 hectares while preserving its unique identity. Modern temperature-controlled vinification and traditional cement tanks allow the estate to produce expressive wines that faithfully capture the freshness, generosity, and distinctive character of this remarkable appellation.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at 16 to 18°C in a Bordeaux glass. An excellent companion to grilled steaks, cheeseburgers, roast lamb, duck, cassoulet, charcuterie, hard cheeses, hearty pasta dishes, and slow-cooked stews.
