Boysenberry, blueberry, and dark plum lead 2023 Inkarri Malbec, joined by eucalyptus, earthy tones, and warm spice over a velvety, fruit-driven palate. Grown at 960 meters in the Nuna Vineyard, the wine combines the ripeness of sunny Agrelo with freshness preserved by the pronounced shift between warm days and cool Andean nights. Organic and Biodynamic farming, gentle extraction and an élevage divided between concrete and French oak shape a Malbec centered on fruit, supple texture and the character of its high-elevation site.

Sensory Description:

Dark, dusty violet in color, with generous aromas of boysenberry, blueberry, dark plum and blackberry layered with eucalyptus, fertile earth and warm spice. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied, smooth and supple, carrying concentrated dark berry fruit through fresh acidity and medium tannins. Notes of chocolate-covered blackberry, tart cherry, toasted grain and a touch of citrus provide additional complexity, while measured oak contributes warmth and spice without obscuring the wine's juicy fruit character.

Winemaker's Background:

Inkarri is produced by Proviva, the Mendoza wine company founded by Juan Pelizzatti in 2002 with a focus on expressing the diversity of Argentina's Andean vineyards. The Inkarri project centers on estate-grown wines from organically and biodynamically farmed sites, approaching viticulture as a means of building healthy soils and allowing individual vineyard character to remain visible in the finished wine. For this Malbec, fruit comes from the Nuna Vineyard in Agrelo, where vines grow at approximately 960 meters in a sunny, dry climate marked by significant differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures. The combination of high elevation, calcareous-influenced soils and restrained cellar work reflects Inkarri's broader philosophy of producing wines with purity, freshness and a clear connection to their vineyard origins.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at approximately 18-20°C in a generous red wine glass, with a short period of aeration helping the dark fruit, herbal notes and spice become more expressive. Its combination of ripe fruit, fresh acidity and supple tannins is particularly well suited to grilled steak, smoked or barbecued meats, braised short ribs and sausages. Grilled vegetables, stuffed portobello mushrooms and mature cheeses offer equally natural pairings.
