Producer’s Background

Bodegas Suau traces its history to Joan Suau y Bennassar, who moved his business from Cuba to Mallorca in 1851. The company’s story describes its brandy as a later chapter in that history: production began in the early 20th century, and the flagship “El barquito” was launched in 1951. In 1989, the Barceló family became majority shareholder and took charge of management; the Barceló and Mora families have collaborated in the business since then. Suau describes its brandy-making method as beginning with gently pressed Airén grapes, followed by fermentation, distillation and slow maturation through a solera and static aging system.
