Crunchy red fruit, fresh herbs, and bright floral character give Bow & Arrow 2023 Time Machine Rouge its immediate, energetic appeal. Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Cabernet Franc come together in this deliberately uncomplicated daily red, shaped by brisk acidity, supple structure, and a mix of stainless steel and neutral oak. Although presented as the 2023 rendition, Time Machine is conceived as a non-vintage table wine with a recognizable character from release to release, embodying Bow & Arrow's Loire-inspired preference for freshness, drinkability, and modesty over weight or polish.

Product Details:

  • Producer: Bow & Arrow Wines
  • Winemaker: Scott Frank
  • Owners: Scott Frank and Dana Frank
  • Grapes: Pinot Noir, Gamay, Cabernet Franc
  • Alcohol: 12.5% ABV
  • Fermentation: Gamay fermented semi-carbonically in concrete; Cabernet Franc destemmed; Pinot Noir fermented in small fermenters
  • Aging: Combination of stainless steel and neutral oak, with Cabernet Franc raised in 500-liter puncheons and Pinot Noir in barrique

Sensory:

Fresh raspberry, cranberry, and red plum lead into crushed herbs, subtle pepper, and a lightly earthy undertone. The palate is bright and crunchy, with mouthwatering acidity carrying juicy red fruit through a light, supple frame. Cabernet Franc brings savory herbal definition, while Gamay and Pinot Noir keep the wine lifted and fruit-driven. The finish remains clean and energetic, with lingering red fruit and gentle spice rather than weight or overt oak.

Winemaker's Background:

Scott Frank founded Bow & Arrow with Dana Frank in Portland in 2010 after working as a wine buyer and, beginning in 2007, as an assistant winemaker to John Paul at Cameron Winery. Rather than treating Burgundy as the inevitable model for Oregon wine, Frank found inspiration in the Loire Valley and its tradition of refreshing, modestly structured wines made from varieties including Gamay, Cabernet Franc, Chenin Blanc, and Melon. Bow & Arrow sources fruit from a small group of Willamette Valley growers and produces its wines in a subterranean winery in Northeast Portland. Drinkability and low-intervention winemaking remain central to the project, and Time Machine Rouge expresses that philosophy in particularly direct form: an everyday red assembled for freshness, versatility, and immediate pleasure rather than power or prestige.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve lightly chilled at approximately 13 to 15 degrees Celsius in a medium-sized red wine glass. Its lively acidity and modest structure make it particularly versatile with pizza, roast chicken, grilled sausages, charcuterie, mushroom dishes, tomato-based pasta, and simply prepared pork. A slight chill emphasizes its crunchy fruit and herbal freshness, making it equally suited to the dinner table or casual warm-weather drinking.
