Ripe peach, apricot, delicate flowers, and a distinctive muscat spice open with youthful aromatic brightness. 2025 Colterenzio-Schreckbichl 'Pfefferer' Alto Adige is made from Moscato Giallo, locally known in this form as Pfefferer, and fermented cool in stainless steel before several months of fine-lees refinement. Fresh acidity and restrained residual sugar keep its generous aromatics precise, continuing a Colterenzio wine tradition that dates to the late 1970s.

Sensory Description:

Ripe peach and juicy apricot lead the aromatics, followed by delicate floral tones, fresh muscat character, and a subtle spicy note reminiscent of nutmeg and white pepper. The palate is supple and gently rounded, with ripe fruit balanced by crisp acidity that keeps the wine lively rather than sweet. Fine-lees aging adds a touch of texture without obscuring its aromatic clarity, while the finish remains fresh, lightly spicy, and persistent.

Winemaker's Background:

Cantina Colterenzio, known as Kellerei Schreckbichl in German, was founded in 1960 when 26 local winegrowers formed a cooperative to gain greater independence from the wine merchants who controlled much of the regional trade. Today, approximately 300 winegrowing families form the foundation of the cellar, farming vineyards across a broad range of elevations and soil types. Pfefferer is one of the cooperative’s historic wines. Its origins reach back to 1978, when board member Karl Nicolussi-Leck proposed making a separate wine from old vines locally called Pfefferer, a distinctive form of Gold Muscat. The first bottles followed in 1979. Today winemaking is led by Martin Lemayr, with Pfefferer remaining one of Colterenzio’s most recognizable expressions of aromatic white wine.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve chilled at approximately 8 to 10 degrees Celsius in a medium-sized white wine glass to emphasize its floral perfume, stone fruit, and refreshing acidity. It works particularly well as an aperitif and pairs naturally with spicy antipasti, grilled or poached fish, shellfish, fresh cheeses, lightly spiced Asian dishes, or vegetable preparations with aromatic herbs.
