Sensory Description:

Brilliant pale straw with greenish reflections, opening with aromas of lemon zest, fresh-cut hay, white flowers, and wild herbs. The palate is crisp and lively, revealing green apple, citrus, and subtle fennel alongside a distinctive stony minerality. Five months on the lees contribute a rounded texture that balances the wine's energetic acidity. A delicate, almost imperceptible spritz enhances its freshness, leading to a clean, savory finish with a refreshing Atlantic character.

  • Score: 90 Points, Guía Peñín, 2025

Producer’s Background:

Bodega K5 began as the shared ambition of five Basque friends, including renowned chef Karlos Arguiñano, whose homemade Txakoli inspired them to establish their own winery. Vineyards were planted in 2005, followed by the winery's first vintage in 2010 and the introduction of K Pilota in 2015. Located in Aia, the estate cultivates 15 hectares of Hondarrabi Zuri overlooking the Cantabrian Sea. Today, Amaia Arguiñano leads the winery, working with winemakers Andrea Vargas and Lauren Rosillo to showcase the grape's freshness, mineral character, and versatility. The name K Pilota pays tribute to pelota, the traditional Basque ball game.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve well chilled at 45–50°F (7–10°C) in a white wine glass to highlight its citrus aromatics and lively acidity. An excellent match for oysters, grilled sardines, anchovies, seafood pintxos, sushi, and lightly prepared white fish. Its freshness also complements Spanish tapas, fresh cheeses, and roast chicken with herbs. Enjoy young to appreciate its bright fruit and coastal vibrancy.
