2022 Mill Creek Vineyards & Winery Waterwheel Red is an estate-grown Bordeaux-style red blend from Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley, where the Kreck family has cultivated grapes for generations. Named for the winery's distinctive working waterwheel, this wine reflects Mill Creek's longstanding focus on Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and other traditional Bordeaux varieties. Dark berry and cherry fruit, subtle spice and savory undertones define its generous character, while supple texture and balanced tannins make it a natural choice for the dinner table.

Winemaker's Background:

Mill Creek Vineyards & Winery is rooted in four generations of Kreck family farming and winemaking in Dry Creek Valley. Charles Kreck moved his family to Healdsburg in the late 1940s, and the family began growing grapes in 1964, planting some of the valley's earliest Cabernet Sauvignon vines. The Krecks purchased their present estate in 1969, began commercial wine production in 1974, and established the winery on Westside Road in 1976. Brothers Bill and Bob Kreck helped develop the vineyards and winery, while Yvonne Kreck became an important part of the family's hospitality tradition.

Jeremy Kreck, the third-generation winemaker, took responsibility for winemaking in 2004 and also oversees vineyard management. Raised in Alexander Valley and involved in farming from an early age, he developed a vineyard-first philosophy that connects careful fruit growing with thoughtful cellar practices. Under his direction, Mill Creek has expanded its portfolio while strengthening its commitment to sustainable viticulture. The estate earned Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing status in 2017, reflecting the family's long-term dedication to environmental stewardship and the health of its vineyards.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at approximately 16-18°C. Waterwheel Red is well suited to grilled steak, roast beef, lamb, braised short ribs, and other richly flavored meat dishes. Its dark fruit and savory character also complement hearty pasta with tomato or meat sauces, mushroom risotto, aged cheeses and herb-roasted vegetables.
