Ripe apple, quince, white pepper, and a gentle note of peach open with fresh, poised energy. 2022 Weingut Weinrieder 'Klassik' Gruner Veltliner Weinviertel DAC, Niederosterreich, Austria comes from southwest-facing vineyards near forest, where cooler ripening conditions help preserve fruit definition and lively acidity. Sensory Description:

Bright yellow with a youthful green cast, the wine opens with ripe apple, quince, and white peach layered over Grüner Veltliner’s characteristic peppery spice. The palate is light-footed yet gently rounded, with juicy acidity carrying the orchard-fruit flavors through a clean, elegant mid-palate. Subtle mineral and savory tones add definition without weight, leading to a fresh, persistent finish that remains dry, balanced, and inviting.

Producer’s Background:

Weingut Weinrieder was founded by Franz Rieder in 1928 and is based in Kleinhadersdorf near Poysdorf. The estate later adopted the distinctive WEINRIEDER name to separate its identity from the many Rieder families working in the Weinviertel. Today, Lukas Rieder owns and manages the winery, while Lukas and his father, Friedrich “Fritz” Rieder, are identified by the estate as its winemakers. Lukas developed his experience through work with Klaus Peter Keller in Rheinhessen and at Alzinger in the Wachau.

The family farms approximately 20 hectares across south- and southwest-facing sites planted to Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Weissburgunder, and Chardonnay. Vineyard work emphasizes cover crops, protection of beneficial insects, strict crop reduction, selective harvesting, and extended ripening. In the cellar, stainless steel fermentation, restrained technology, and time on the lees preserve clarity while building texture, an approach intended to express both site and vintage with power, freshness, and character.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at approximately 10 degrees Celsius in a medium-sized white wine glass to emphasize its orchard fruit, peppery lift, and lively acidity. Pair with grilled or poached fish, shellfish, roast chicken, schnitzel, vegetable dishes, fresh herbs, mild Asian preparations, or traditional Austrian cuisine.
