Âmevive
Âmevive is a deeply personal and land-driven wine project rooted in the rugged, wind-swept terrain of Santa Barbara County, where old vines, native ecosystems, and thoughtful farming converge to create wines of striking vitality and soul. Pronounced “ahm-veev” and translating loosely to “living soul,” the name reflects the winery’s core philosophy: that great wine is not made, but revealed, an honest expression of land, life, and human intention working in harmony.
Founded by Alice Anderson, a passionate farmer and winemaker, Âmevive is centered on the belief that true expression comes from deep connection to place. The project focuses on some of the oldest continuously farmed vines in Santa Barbara County, carefully tended with a commitment to farming that goes beyond organic. The vineyards are alive with biodiversity, cover crops, animals, and native flora all playing a role in building a resilient, self-sustaining ecosystem. Rather than imposing control, the approach is to listen, observe, and respond, with Alice and her team walking the vineyard rows daily, developing an intimate understanding of each site’s rhythms and needs.
This regenerative, holistic farming philosophy carries seamlessly into the cellar. Âmevive wines are made with a minimal-intervention mindset, allowing native fermentations, gentle handling, and time to shape the final expression. Additions are avoided wherever possible, and the goal is always clarity, wines that feel energetic, textured, and alive, with a direct line back to the vineyard. There is an intentional restraint here: nothing is overworked, nothing is forced.
The resulting wines are vibrant, lifted, and deeply expressive, often showcasing Rhône varieties like Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre alongside other thoughtfully chosen plantings. They tend to carry a sense of movement, fresh acidity, mineral tension, and layered aromatics that reflect both the coastal influence and the vitality of living soils. Each bottle feels like a snapshot of a moment in time, shaped by vintage, site, and the quiet decisions made along the way.
Âmevive is not just about farming or winemaking, it’s about stewardship and intention. It’s a project that honors the past through old vines, engages the present through mindful practices, and looks toward the future by nurturing the land for generations to come. In every sense, the wines live up to their name: soulful, alive, and expressive, offering a genuine and moving connection between people and place.
