Sensory Description:
This elegant wine opens with classic aromas of toasted almonds and hazelnuts, followed by delicate undertones of dried figs and golden raisins. The palate reveals a silky texture and medium-bodied frame, where savory nuttiness and faint sweetness mingle harmoniously. A touch of fig and soft caramel notes complements a dry, clean finish. More full-bodied than a typical Fino, this Medium Dry strikes a satisfying balance between structure and drinkability.
Winemaker's Background:
Founded in 1729, Bodegas Alvear is a pioneer of the Montilla-Moriles DO in southern Spain. With deep roots in the region’s viticultural history, Alvear remains one of the largest and most acclaimed estates in Andalusia. The family-owned winery blends tradition with innovation, using the solera and criaderas system to age its wines—most notably from Pedro Ximénez, a variety more common here than in neighboring Jerez. Alvear's holdings and production techniques allow for some of the most age-worthy and expressive fortified wines in Spain.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve lightly chilled at 8–12ºC. A classic aperitif, this wine pairs beautifully with salted nuts, Manchego cheese, cured meats, or smoked almonds. Also enjoyable with tapas and charcuterie boards.
This is a sophisticated, gently sweetened Amontillado-style white that showcases Pedro Ximénez’s potential beyond its more familiar ultra-sweet expressions—refined, balanced, and deeply traditional.

Port & Sherry
Port and Sherry, two fortified wines from the Iberian Peninsula, stand as enduring symbols of richness, complexity, and cultural tradition.
Though both are crafted through the fortification of wine with grape spirit, their divergent origins, styles, and aging methods yield profoundly different drinking experiences.
Port, hailing from Portugal’s Douro Valley, is opulent and fruit-driven, often enjoyed as a luscious after-dinner pour.
Sherry, produced in Spain’s Jerez region, offers a remarkable spectrum—from bone-dry and savory to decadently sweet—embodying both rustic charm and refined elegance.
Together, they represent the fortified category at its most expressive and storied.
