Bric Cenciurio Langhe Nebbiolo, Piedmont, Italy

Somm Says

Bright rose petal, tart cherry, and lifted red berry aromatics define the first impression of the 2023 Bric Cenciurio Langhe Nebbiolo. Crafted as a more immediate, transparent expression of the variety, this bottling highlights Nebbiolo’s elegance and tension while offering earlier approachability than its longer-aged counterparts. It stands as a clear expression of the Pittatore and Sacchetto families’ collaborative, multi-generational commitment to clarity, restraint, and faithful interpretation of Piedmontese Nebbiolo.

Sensory Description:

The wine pours a translucent ruby with garnet edges, signaling freshness and finesse. Aromatically, it opens with classic Nebbiolo notes of rose petal and violet layered over tart cherry, wild raspberry, and subtle hints of dried herbs and tobacco leaf. On the palate, bright red fruit is carried by lively acidity and fine, grippy tannins that provide structure without weight. Earthy undertones, a touch of orange zest, and gentle spice add nuance through the mid-palate. Compared to more austere, long-aged expressions, this Langhe Nebbiolo emphasizes immediacy and clarity while retaining varietal tension, finishing with savory persistence, floral lift, and a refined tannic edge.

Producer’s Background:

Bric Cenciurio is a family-driven Piedmontese estate founded in the early 1990s, uniting the Pittatore and Sacchetto families around a shared vision of traditional viticulture and expressive winemaking. Named for the “bric,” or hilltop vineyard of Cenciurio, the winery focuses on transparent expressions of Nebbiolo shaped by site and season. Today, Alessandro and Alberto Pittatore are deeply involved in both vineyard and cellar work, supported by enologist Gianfranco Cordero, ensuring continuity, precision, and stylistic consistency across vintages.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve slightly cool, around 61–64°F, to highlight the wine’s aromatic lift and vibrant acidity. This Nebbiolo pairs naturally with braised meats, roasted lamb, porcini-based pastas, and mushroom risotto, as well as aged alpine cheeses. Its structure and freshness also make it a versatile match for tomato-driven dishes and herb-forward preparations.
