Mauro Molino Barbera d'Alba, Piedmont, Italy

Somm Says

Bright crimson ruby hues and lifted red fruit aromatics introduce the 2024 Mauro Molino Barbera d'Alba, a wine that captures freshness, immediacy, and quiet precision. Sourced from sandy soils in Roero and shaped entirely in stainless steel, this Barbera highlights purity of fruit over weight or oak influence. It reflects Mauro Molino’s long-standing philosophy of clarity, balance, and respect for varietal character built over decades in Piedmont.

Sensory Description:

Aromas of baked cherries, dried strawberries, cocoa, and red spices rise immediately from the glass, layered with subtle minerality and hints of wild herbs. The palate is juicy and fruit-driven, showing vibrant red berry flavors supported by naturally high, well-integrated acidity. Medium-bodied with a velvety texture, this Barbera finishes clean and flavorful, offering a vivid expression that leans into freshness and drinkability rather than weight. The 2024 vintage emphasizes clarity and balance, reinforcing Barbera d'Alba’s reputation as one of Piedmont’s most versatile and food-friendly reds.

Winemaker's Background:

Established in 1953, Azienda Agricola Molino is based near the historic Abbey of San Martino di Marcenasco and includes holdings in some of the most respected vineyard sites of the Langhe. Mauro Molino assumed leadership of the estate in 1978, steadily building its reputation through thoughtful vineyard management and restrained winemaking. Today, the family estate farms approximately 11 hectares, producing wines that balance tradition, sustainability, and modern precision.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve slightly below room temperature to highlight freshness and aromatic lift. Barbera d'Alba pairs naturally with antipasti, pizza, pasta dishes, roasted chicken, and a wide range of everyday meals, making it equally enjoyable on its own or at the table.
