Sensory Description:

The nose opens with lifted aromas of red cherry, blackberry, plum, violet, and cracked black pepper layered alongside cocoa, herbs, and cool limestone minerality. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and finely textured, balancing vibrant acidity with supple tannins and juicy fruit concentration. The absence of oak allows the Cabernet Franc varietal character to remain transparent and energetic, emphasizing freshness, spice, and purity over weight. The limestone soils contribute a distinctly chalky mineral tension that carries through the wine’s long, refreshing finish. The 2023 vintage shows remarkable precision and brightness while maintaining the structure necessary for graceful short-term aging.

Winemaker’s Background:

Château Yvonne was revitalized in 2007 by Mathieu Vallée, who comes from a winemaking family in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil and sought to elevate the reputation of Saumur-Champigny through meticulous organic farming and low-intervention cellar practices. The estate’s vineyards, originally planted organically by Yvonne and Jean-François Lamunière, are farmed today using certified organic and biodynamic principles. Fermentations rely exclusively on native yeasts, and the wines are matured within historic underground tuffeau cellars carved into the limestone beneath the estate. Château Yvonne has become one of the Loire Valley’s benchmark producers, known for wines that combine finesse, minerality, and authentic expression of place.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at 15–17 °C in a Burgundy or universal red wine glass. Excellent with grilled meats, roast poultry, lamb, mushroom dishes, charcuterie, soft cheeses, and small game birds. Its freshness and moderate structure also pair beautifully with herb-driven and earthy cuisine.
