Sensory Description:

The 2022 Givry Meix au Roi displays a brilliant ruby hue with youthful intensity. Aromas of fresh red cherry, plum, and strawberry mingle with floral violet, subtle earth, and a touch of spice. On the palate, it is silky and refined, showing pure red fruit and delicate minerality framed by supple tannins. Notes of redcurrant and forest floor evolve toward a long, graceful finish marked by finesse and persistence. Elegant yet approachable, it exemplifies the balance and charm for which Givry is renowned.

Winemaker's Background:

For four generations, the Danjean and Berthoux families have cultivated their vineyards in Jambles and Givry, in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise. The estate’s history began with Charles Berthoux in the early 20th century, continued by his son Georges, and was revitalized by Pascal Danjean in the early 1990s when he began bottling the family’s own wines rather than selling to cooperatives. Today, Pascal and his son Charles-Antoine manage 13 hectares of vineyards across five appellations, including Givry and Mercurey. Guided by sustainable practices, minimal intervention, and a deep respect for terroir, their wines capture the authentic expression of Burgundy’s limestone soils and traditional craftsmanship.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at 16–18°C after brief decanting to open its aromatic layers. This wine pairs beautifully with Charolais beef, roasted duck, or herb-crusted lamb, as well as earthy dishes like wild mushroom risotto or truffled pasta. It will also complement aged cheeses such as Comté or Tomme de Savoie. Best enjoyed now for its youthful fruit or cellared for up to a decade to reveal added complexity.

Refined, aromatic, and elegantly structured, the 2022 Danjean-Berthoux Givry Meix au Roi stands as a testament to Burgundy’s enduring craftsmanship,  a wine that bridges tradition and modern precision with effortless grace.
