Sensory Description:

‘Ambratu’ opens with heady aromatics of orange peel, almond butter, and rose-scented Turkish Delight layered over notes of black pepper and rock salt. On the palate, it’s simultaneously bright and textural, slightly tannic yet lifted by vibrant acidity. Flavors of apricot tea, beeswax, dried orange peel, and Mediterranean herbs mingle with hints of vanilla bean and English Breakfast tea. The finish is long, saline, and delicately spiced, evoking sunlit afternoons and sea air.

Winemaker's Background:

Gebbia is the newest evolution of Due Terre Wines — a collaboration between Sicilian winemaker Vito Lauria and California-based importer Catherine Stratton. Together, they champion native Sicilian grapes and sustainable farming practices to create wines that are as expressive as they are approachable. Vito, born in Alcamo and trained in Northern Italy, revitalized his family’s old winery with Catherine’s partnership, producing wines that celebrate Sicily’s deep agricultural roots and biodiversity. Every grape is sourced from organic vineyards within an hour of the cellar, and every bottle tells a story of the island’s terroir through its texture, aromatics, and artistry.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve slightly chilled, around 12–14°C (54–57°F). The 2023 ‘Ambratu’ pairs beautifully with roasted squash, Mediterranean seafood, or dishes featuring root vegetables and herbs. Its structure and savory edge also complement creamy curries, aged cheeses, or even a rustic chicken pot pie, perfect for cozy evenings and thoughtful meals alike.

The 2023 Due Terre Gebbia ‘Ambratu’ Terre Siciliane IGT is more than an orange wine, it’s a sensory journey through Sicily’s warmth, culture, and craft, bottled with purpose and personality.
