Sensory Description:

Full-bodied and finely sculpted, the wine delivers classic Nebbiolo character with elevated yet refreshing tannins and vibrant acidity. Tart red cherry, redcurrant, and cranberry lead the palate, followed by layers of dried earth, leather, and black tea. Floral tones of rose petal and hints of sandalwood add aromatic lift, while the texture remains precise and beautifully balanced. The finish is long, savory, and complex, revealing depth and poise that will continue to evolve with time.

Winemaker's Background:

Castello di Verduno stands proudly atop the village of Verduno, bridging two historic cellar sites, one beneath the castle on the edge of the Barolo zone, and another near the renowned Rabajà cru in Barbaresco. Under the stewardship of Gabriella Burlotto and Franco Bianco, and guided in the cellar by Mario Andrion, the estate adheres to a traditional philosophy defined by long macerations and aging in large Slavonian oak botti. Wines are vinified in Barbaresco, then bottled and aged in Verduno without fining or filtration, preserving purity and structure. The result is a portfolio of classically styled Piedmont wines known for elegance, authenticity, and longevity.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at 16–18°C in large Burgundy or Nebbiolo stems to allow full aromatic expression. Ideal for après-ski dinners and hearty fare, this Barbaresco pairs beautifully with meat or mushroom-based pasta and risotto, braised short ribs with polenta, rabbit dishes, or red meat mains. Decanting is recommended in youth to soften tannins and reveal complexity.

Refined, age-worthy, and deeply traditional, 2022 Castello di Verduno Barbaresco DOCG offers a compelling expression of Nebbiolo, equally rewarding now with air or after years of patient cellaring.
