Wild raspberry, pressed rose petals, and sweet orange peel unfold gracefully in the 2022 Mauro Molino Bricco Luciani, a Barolo that balances aromatic lift with polished structure and immediate charm. Sourced from a small historic parcel directly in front of the Molino winery in La Morra, this wine reflects the family’s refined approach to Nebbiolo, combining traditional vineyard expression with carefully measured oak élevage. Mauro Molino and his children, Matteo and Martina, continue to craft wines that honor Barolo’s heritage while embracing precision, elegance, and accessibility.

Sensory Description:

The wine opens with expressive aromas of wild raspberry, crushed flowers, sweet orange peel, and subtle oak spice layered alongside hints of dried herbs and saline minerality. The palate is medium-bodied yet expansive, delivering vibrant red fruit, blood orange, and savory spice framed by polished but steadily building tannins. Fresh acidity keeps the wine energetic and focused, while the sandy soils contribute finesse and aromatic precision. Notes of rose petal, tea leaf, and mineral tension carry through the long, structured finish, giving the wine both early accessibility and excellent aging potential.

Awards & Accolades:

  • 94 Points: Jeb Dunnuck, “More immediacy than some sites” with “refreshing acidity and a saline edge.”

Winemaker’s Background:

Founded officially with the 1982 vintage, Mauro Molino has become one of La Morra’s quietly respected Barolo estates, known for wines that combine site transparency with elegance and approachability. Mauro Molino returned to his family’s vineyards after studying enology in Alba and gaining winemaking experience throughout Italy, gradually building the estate into one of the denomination’s most admired family-run producers. Today, siblings Matteo and Martina Molino work alongside their father, managing approximately 12 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards across prized Barolo crus, including Conca dell’Annunziata and Bricco Luciani. Their philosophy centers on sustainable farming, minimal intervention, restrained sulfur use, and preserving the purity and character of Nebbiolo through thoughtful, balanced winemaking.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at 60–64°F in large Burgundy stems after decanting for approximately one hour to reveal the wine’s floral complexity and layered tannins. Excellent with braised short ribs, porcini risotto, truffle pasta, roasted duck, aged Parmigiano Reggiano, or slow-cooked lamb dishes. While approachable in youth, additional cellaring will further soften and deepen the wine’s complexity over the next decade and beyond.
