Slender, sparkling, and unmistakably celebratory, the Marquis Fluted Champagne Glass brings vintage Bohemian character to the table through a tall silhouette and crisp geometric decoration. Produced by Bohemia Crystal-Crystalex, the discontinued Marquis pattern dates to circa 1977 and combines intersecting criss-cross motifs with strong vertical lines that catch and refract light across the bowl. At just over eight inches tall, it is an elegant surviving example of Czech stemware from one of the country’s most important glassmaking producers.

Design Description:

The Marquis flute balances a tall, narrow champagne bowl with a decorative stem and an assertive geometric pattern. Vertical lines emphasize the height of the glass, while intersecting criss-cross cuts create diamond-like facets that enliven the clear surface as it moves through the light. The result has the ornament and brilliance associated with traditional Bohemian tableware without relying on colored glass or metallic trim. Its elongated proportions make it particularly suited to sparkling wine service, while the patterned surface gives the piece enough visual presence for formal place settings and celebratory toasts.

Producer’s Background:

Crystalex is rooted in Nový Bor, the historic center of North Bohemian glassmaking and a town associated with the craft for centuries. Local glassmaking operations were consolidated into the national company Borocrystal after the Second World War, with production moving into the present Nový Bor complex in 1967. The company introduced its first automatic production line in 1972 and adopted the Crystalex name in 1974, shortly before the Marquis pattern appeared circa 1977. For more than fifty years, Crystalex products have carried the Bohemia Crystal trademark, connecting industrial-scale glassmaking with the much older craft traditions of northern Bohemia. Today Crystalex remains the largest producer of drinkware in the Czech Republic and continues to produce glass in Nový Bor.

Why the Marquis Fluted Champagne Glass:

The Marquis flute offers more than a functional vessel for sparkling wine. Its appeal lies in the combination of classic proportions, geometric Bohemian decoration, and its place within a discontinued Crystalex pattern dating to the late twentieth century. Whether used to complete an existing Marquis service, assembled gradually into a vintage set, or enjoyed as an individual champagne glass, it brings the character of Czech glassmaking history directly to the table.
