Sourced from ungrafted, 30+ year-old vines at Dion Vineyard, rooted deep in windblown loess soils of the Laurelwood District, this wine channels gravity’s quiet pull into a precise balance of fruit, texture, and mineral intensity. Crafted with patience and restraint, it’s a wine that rewards contemplation, offering a vivid portrait of site and season through a lens of tension, light, and depth.

Sensory Description:

‘Gravity’s Pull’ opens with shimmering aromas of lemon peel, white peach, and crisp green apple, underpinned by subtle notes of flint, sea spray, and crushed stone. The palate is finely etched, tense and vibrant, with citrus zest, orchard fruit, and chalky minerality driving through a long, electric finish. Oak is present only as a whisper, lending quiet texture and harmony without softening the wine’s crystalline edge. With time, it unfurls layers of white flower, oyster shell, and a touch of hazelnut, deepening its elegance and sense of place.

Winemaker's Background:

Founded by Saul Mutchnick, Championship Bottle is a small Willamette Valley winery inspired by the textural whites of Friuli and the structured restraint of Burgundy. The project’s focus is singular, crafting wines of transparency, minerality, and quiet power. Working exclusively with exceptional vineyards and minimal intervention, Saul lets Oregon’s cool climate and complex soils speak for themselves. “Gravity’s Pull,” the flagship Chardonnay, encapsulates the producer’s vision: wines of clarity, nuance, and balance, made with patience and intent.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve chilled at 48–52°F (9–11°C). This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with seared scallops, grilled halibut, oysters, or linguine with lemon cream and herbs. Its mineral spine and tension also make it a perfect match for roasted chicken, buttered morels, or aged goat cheese. For those with patience, cellar it for 7–10 years to unlock further layers of saline minerality, chalk, and quiet grace.

The 2021 Championship Bottle ‘Gravity’s Pull’ Chardonnay is both an homage to classic craftsmanship and a distinctly Oregonian expression of elegance, a wine where restraint, purity, and time converge in perfect balance.
