I Pentri Flora Falanghina Beneventano IGT, Campania, Italy

Expert's Choice Somm Says

Bright citrus blossom, white peach, and fresh herbs set the tone for the 2021 I Pentri Flora Falanghina Beneventano IGT. Sourced from high-elevation inland vineyards in the Sannio area, this wine presents Falanghina with tension, aromatic clarity, and a distinctly mineral profile that reflects both altitude and thoughtful restraint in the cellar. It is a focused, quietly expressive white that underscores I Pentri’s commitment to native Campanian varieties and transparent winemaking.

Sensory Description:

The nose opens with aromas of lemon zest, white peach, pear skin, and wildflowers, accented by subtle notes of fennel, fresh almond, and wet stone. On the palate, the wine is taut and energetic, driven by bright acidity and a clear mineral spine. Citrus and orchard fruit flavors remain precise and focused, with gentle herbal and saline nuances emerging through the mid-palate. Compared to softer, coastal expressions of Falanghina, Flora shows greater linearity and tension, finishing clean and dry with lingering citrus peel, floral lift, and a distinctly savory edge.

Producer’s Background:

I Pentri is a family-run estate based in the Sannio Beneventano, founded by Dionisio Meola and Lia Falato with the aim of restoring depth and authenticity to Campania’s native grapes. Farming is hands-on and sustainable, with a strong emphasis on manual labor, biodiversity, and minimal intervention. Today, their son Alessandro Meola works alongside them in both vineyard and cellar, reinforcing a generational approach grounded in continuity and precision. Flora represents their vision for Falanghina as a serious, site-driven white wine capable of expressing inland Campania with clarity and restraint.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve well chilled, around 50–54°F, to emphasize freshness and aromatic lift. This Falanghina pairs beautifully with seafood, shellfish, grilled vegetables, fresh cheeses, and herb-driven Mediterranean dishes. Its acidity and mineral character also make it an excellent companion to simple pasta preparations, lemon-forward sauces, and lighter poultry dishes.
