Distiller's Background:

The Yoichi Distillery, established in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, was Nikka’s first and remains one of Japan’s most revered whisky producers. Taketsuru selected Yoichi for its coastal climate, reminiscent of Scotland, to mirror the environment in which he first studied whisky-making. Today, the distillery continues to use direct coal-fired pot stills, a rare traditional method, and benefits from the cool maritime air of Ishikari Bay that subtly influences maturation.
