Fresh red cherry, plum, and dried herbs open with an easy, fruit-led character. 2025 El Jefe Grande Tempranillo is drawn from a family estate on Spain’s northern Meseta and fermented in traditional cement vats, preserving the grape’s bright fruit, supple tannins, and uncomplicated freshness. Bottled without oak in a generous one-liter format, it reflects a practical house style centered on purity, versatility, and everyday drinking.

Sensory Description:

The wine opens with red cherry, raspberry, plum, and fresh fig, followed by touches of dried herbs, stone, and subtle cocoa. The palate is medium-bodied and approachable, with cement fermentation helping retain vivid fruit and a clean structural line. Soft tannins frame the red berry flavors without heaviness, leading to a dry, flexible finish marked by plum skin, herbs, and gentle earth.

Producer’s Background:

El Jefe Grande is produced and bottled by Dueba Vitivinícola, a winegrowing and production company based in Casaseca de las Chanas in the province of Zamora. Established in 2003, Dueba is connected to the Fariña family, whose broader wine interests include the longstanding Bodegas Fariña business. Manuel Fariña Pérez currently leads Dueba’s corporate administration while also holding executive responsibilities within Bodegas Fariña.

The El Jefe label is presented in the United States by Vinos Libres Wine Merchants, an importer focused on characterful wines from Spain and South America. The wine is sourced from a family estate on the elevated northern Meseta and made entirely from Tempranillo. Fermentation and aging in breathable cement preserve the grape’s fresh red-fruit profile and soft tannins, while the absence of oak keeps the finished wine direct and adaptable at the table.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve slightly cool at 14 to 16 degrees Celsius in a medium-sized red wine glass to emphasize its fresh fruit and supple structure. Pair with grilled sausages, roast chicken, pork chops, burgers, meatballs, lentil dishes, mushroom pizza, tapas, or firm cheeses. Its one-liter format and unoaked style make it particularly well suited to casual meals and gatherings.
