Roasted agave, citrus oil, olive brine, fresh herbs, and cracked pepper rise from the glass with remarkable intensity and precision. Fortaleza - Los Abuelos 'Lot 150' Special Edition Blanco Tequila was created to honor 150 years of the Sauza family’s tequila legacy, combining traditionally produced blanco lots selected for heightened texture, aromatic depth, and layered agave character. Produced entirely through old-world methods at Destileria La Fortaleza, the tequila reflects a philosophy centered on patience, heritage, and uncompromising traditional production.

Sensory Description:

The nose opens with deeply roasted agave, lime zest, green olive, black pepper, and fresh-cut herbs layered with subtle earth and citrus blossom. The palate is rich and expansive, carrying cooked agave sweetness alongside mineral tones, jalapeño, wet stone, and savory herbal complexity. Compared with the standard Fortaleza Blanco, Lot 150 shows greater concentration, broader texture, and more pronounced fermentation-driven depth, with the tahona process contributing a creamy, slightly oily mouthfeel. Pepper, saline minerality, and lingering agave sweetness carry through a long, structured finish.

Producer’s Background:

Tequila Fortaleza was revived by Guillermo Erickson Sauza, a fifth-generation descendant of the Sauza tequila family whose roots trace back to the earliest commercial tequila production in Jalisco. Operating from Destileria La Fortaleza in Tequila, Mexico, the distillery is known for preserving highly traditional methods that had largely disappeared from modern large-scale tequila production. Tahona milling, brick oven cooking, open-air fermentation, and copper pot distillation remain central to the distillery’s identity. The Los Abuelos Lot 150 release was created as a tribute to 150 years of family tequila history, linking modern Fortaleza production with the Sauza family’s historic legacy and longstanding commitment to traditional craftsmanship.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at 16 to 18 degrees Celsius in a small tulip-shaped tequila glass or white wine glass to emphasize aromatic detail and texture. Best enjoyed neat to appreciate its layered agave character, though a few drops of water can further open its savory and citrus-driven complexity. Pair with ceviche, grilled octopus, roasted pork, aged cheeses, mole dishes, or bright citrus-forward seafood preparations.
