Two Shepherds Bechthold Vineyard Cinsault 2022 is a rare expression of Cinsault from one of California's most historically significant vineyards. Drawn from dry-farmed vines planted in 1886, the wine captures the variety's delicacy and perfume while revealing the concentration and complexity that come with exceptionally old vines. Light in body yet compelling in detail, it offers an elegant, transparent interpretation of Lodi fruit shaped by restrained, minimal-intervention winemaking.

Sensory Description:

Delicate and highly aromatic, the wine opens with lifted notes of wild strawberry, red cherry, rose petal and dried herbs, joined by subtle pepper and earthy undertones. The palate is light and supple, with bright red fruit, fine tannins and fresh acidity carried through a graceful, silky texture. Its understated concentration and savoury detail lead to a persistent finish that is both refreshing and quietly complex.

Winemaker's Background:

Two Shepherds was founded in 2010 by Rhône specialist and former wine writer William Allen, who began the project as a one-person micro-winery devoted to obscure varieties, small lots and minimal intervention. Karen Daenen joined the winery in 2015 as co-owner and Chief Shepherdess, overseeing marketing, accounting, design and other essential areas of the business while contributing to blending and cellar work. William directs the winemaking, relying on native fermentations and used neutral barrels to preserve the identity of each vineyard and vintage. The winery sources from organic, family-owned vineyards and works closely with growers to guide farming decisions for its contracted rows and blocks.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve lightly chilled at 13 to 15°C. Pair with charcuterie, roast poultry, grilled salmon, pork tenderloin, mushroom dishes, lentils, Mediterranean vegetables or softly seasoned lamb. Its perfume, freshness and delicate structure also make it an excellent red wine for warm-weather drinking.
