Chardonnay gains an aromatic lift from Riesling in 2025 Weingut Brand Bros The Electric Acid Test Chardonnay, a dry, 12% ABV white from Germany’s northern Pfalz. Organically farmed vines on limestone-rich soils provide the foundation for its crisp orchard fruit, vivid citrus, and mineral tension. Made by brothers Daniel and Jonas Brand, this Chardonnay-led blend combines ripe fruit with brisk acidity and a lean, refreshing finish. Its playful name references Tom Wolfe’s The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, while the wine itself delivers a focused expression of the brothers’ cool-climate vineyards.

Sensory Description:

Green apple and lime zest lead the aromas, joined by white peach, pear, and a delicate floral lift. The palate combines ripe orchard fruit with pronounced, mouthwatering acidity, giving the wine a taut, lively shape. Chardonnay supplies the fruit at its center, while Riesling sharpens the citrus impression and heightens the aromatics. A lightly savory edge adds interest without obscuring the fruit. The finish is dry and crisp, with lingering citrus peel and a saline mineral impression that keeps the overall experience fresh and precise.

Winemaker’s Background:

The Brand family has produced wine in the Pfalz since 1891. Fifth-generation brothers Daniel and Jonas took over from their father in 2014, developing an approach centered on organic viticulture and close observation of their vineyards around Bockenheim. Their work includes using herbal extracts and teas to support vine health, alongside clover and wild herbs that encourage biodiversity. In the cellar, the brothers favor spontaneous fermentation and patient lees aging as part of their broader winemaking philosophy. Their wines reflect the cooler conditions and limestone-rich ground of the northern Pfalz, with freshness and expressive fruit central to their style.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at 46–50°F in a medium-sized white-wine glass, allowing it to warm slightly as the orchard-fruit and floral aromas develop. Its bright acidity makes it especially useful with fried fish, tempura vegetables, or crisp chicken schnitzel, while its citrus and saline character complements oysters, crudo, and sushi. Fresh goat cheese, lemon-dressed salads, and herb-filled quiche offer equally appealing pairings. For a simple snack, try salted potato chips or sourdough toast with whipped goat cheese and chives.
