Grapefruit, ripe pear and apricot meet cool smoke, meadow herbs and slate in 2023 Weingut Unterlind Brauneberger Juffer Kabinett, an invigorating and finely balanced Riesling from one of the Middle Mosel's historic steep-slope vineyards. Hand-harvested fruit from old and younger vines rooted in grey and blue Devonian slate is fermented spontaneously in tank, preserving aromatic clarity and mineral precision. Juicy fruit, delicate sweetness and incisive acidity create remarkable tension on the palate, while a lightly saline mineral note carries the wine through a long, elegant finish.

Sensory Description:

Fresh and intensely aromatic, opening with grapefruit and Williams pear followed by ripe citrus and a delicate touch of apricot. Cold smoke and meadow herbs bring a distinctly slate-driven, savory dimension to the fruit. The palate is juicy and energetic, with a generous sense of fruit balanced by precise acidity and fine mineral structure. Despite its concentration, the wine remains elegant and light on its feet, finishing with a salty-mineral edge and impressive aromatic persistence.

Winemaker's Background:

Weingut Unterlind was founded in 2019 by Heiner Bollig and Veronika Bollig-Lintner in Trittenheim. Heiner brings extensive Mosel experience, including more than a decade as head winemaker at Egon Müller, while Veronika contributes deep experience in the wine trade and at the same historic Saar estate. Working with family-owned parcels in renowned Middle Mosel vineyards, the pair focuses on classic Riesling with a minimalist cellar approach designed to preserve site, slate minerality and vintage character.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at 8-10°C without decanting. A Zalto Universal or similarly shaped aromatic white-wine glass is an excellent choice for showing the wine's citrus, stone-fruit and slate-driven perfume. Its interplay of fruit, sweetness, acidity and minerality makes it particularly well suited to sushi, Vietnamese summer rolls and Thai curry with jasmine rice, while its low alcohol and lively freshness also make it an excellent aperitif.
