Winemaker's Background:

Azul y Garanza was established by Dani Sánchez, María Barrena, and Fernando Barrena around the striking landscape of the Bardenas Reales in Navarra. The team restored Carcastillo’s former cooperative winery, acquired in 1999, and returned its original concrete tanks to active use for fermentation and aging. Their philosophy extends beyond individual vineyard parcels to the complete surrounding landscape, encouraging biodiversity and farming organically and regeneratively in the region’s poor clay-calcareous soils and demanding dry climate. María Barrena and Dani Sánchez lead the oenological work with an approach the estate describes as intuitive, relying on healthy fruit, concrete vessels, gentle handling, and minimal human and mechanical intervention. Rosa de Azul y Garanza translates that philosophy into a particularly immediate form, emphasizing freshness, fruit, and the natural energy of the vineyards.
