The 2024 BloodRoot Pinot Noir brings together carefully selected coastal vineyard sites to create a vivid, expressive interpretation of California Pinot Noir. Fruit from Mendocino and Sonoma counties contributes layers of red and dark berries, woodland complexity, and refreshing structure, while restrained whole-cluster fermentation and French oak ageing preserve the wine's energy and aromatic detail. Generous yet composed, it delivers remarkable depth and character while remaining approachable and effortlessly drinkable.

Sensory Description:

Bright ruby in appearance, the wine opens with expressive aromas of wild raspberry, freshly macerated strawberry, black cherry, rose petal, warm spice, and autumn forest. The palate is layered with cranberry, dark plum, pomegranate, and subtle citrus rind, supported by lively acidity and finely textured tannins. Gentle savoury and woodland notes add complexity, while restrained oak contributes polish without obscuring the fruit. The finish is juicy, dry, and persistent, with lingering red berries, citrus, and delicate spice.

Winemaker's Background:

BloodRoot was conceived by Noah and Kelly Dorrance of Reeve Wines from a belief that thoughtfully made, site-conscious wine should remain attainable. Working with Director of Winemaking Katy Wilson, the team sources fruit from benchmark vineyards throughout California and combines careful farming with precise, low-intervention winemaking. The name BloodRoot evokes the relationship between the living vine, its roots, and the soils that sustain it. Now part of the Overshine Collective, the brand continues under the creative involvement of its founders, producing bright, layered wines that express both vineyard character and contemporary California energy.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at 14-16°C in a Burgundy or generously shaped Pinot Noir glass. No extended decanting is required, although 15 to 20 minutes of air will help reveal its floral and woodland nuances. Pair with roast chicken, duck breast, grilled salmon, pork tenderloin, herb-roasted turkey, mushroom risotto, lentils, grilled aubergine, or pizza topped with wild mushrooms. Cheese pairings include Brie, Camembert, Gruyère, Comté, and mild washed-rind cheeses. Its red-fruited freshness also complements cranberry-glazed poultry, cherry sauces, and lightly spiced Asian dishes. For dessert, consider dark chocolate with dried cherries or a restrained berry tart. An excellent choice for relaxed dinners, autumn gatherings, and occasions that call for a versatile, polished red.
