Saison Dupont is one of the defining expressions of the Belgian Saison tradition, a 6.5% ABV farmhouse ale whose roots at Brasserie Dupont reach back to 1844. Originally conceived as a refreshing beer for seasonal farm workers, it combines grapefruit, white-fruit esters, clove-like spice, phenolic complexity, and malt with a firm bitterness and notably dry finish. Its combination of rustic character, precision, and refreshment has made Saison Dupont an enduring reference point for the style well beyond its Belgian farmhouse origins.

Sensory Description:

Complex and highly aromatic, Saison Dupont opens with grapefruit and white-fruit esters framed by pronounced clove and characteristic phenolic spice. Those citrus and spice tones continue onto the palate alongside subtle malt character, while lively carbonation gives the beer energy and lift. Firm bitterness defines the finish, which remains flavorful and distinctly dry without residual sweetness. The overall impression is expressive yet refreshing, balancing fruit, spice, malt, and bitterness with remarkable clarity.

Brewer's Background:

Brasserie Dupont occupies a working farm whose history dates to 1759, with Saison brewing documented there from 1844. The Dupont family story began at the brewery in 1920, when Alfred Dupont purchased the farm-brewery for his son Louis, an agronomist who had been considering a move to Canada. Louis revived its Saison recipe, preserving a farmhouse tradition originally associated with beer brewed during winter and kept for seasonal agricultural workers to drink during the warmer months. Today the independent family brewery is led by fourth-generation engineer-brewer Olivier Dedeycker. Saison Dupont has grown from those agricultural roots into one of the brewery’s principal exports while remaining closely associated with the traditional Belgian Saison style.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at cellar temperature, approximately 12 degrees Celsius, or slightly chilled as an aperitif. Brasserie Dupont recommends Saison Dupont with mussels, eels in herb sauce, asparagus, stews, grilled meats, and Asian cuisine. Its firm bitterness, dry finish, and spicy character also make it an excellent partner for cheese, particularly Moinette Jeune or Saison Dupont cheese.
