Hobo Wines Folk Machine 'Parts & Labor' Red, California

Hobo Wines Folk Machine 'Parts & Labor' Red, California

Expert's Choice Somm Says

Bright red cherry, crushed raspberry, and wild strawberry open the glass with lifted aromatics and a lightly savory edge. 2024 Hobo Wines Folk Machine 'Parts & Labor' Red marks the fourth vintage where Grenache takes the lead in the blend and the first to appear under its refreshed label, continuing a tradition of collaborative vineyard sourcing and expressive, minimally manipulated winemaking. As with all Folk Machine wines, the philosophy remains simple. Honest fruit, thoughtful farming partners, and a belief that vibrant, drinkable wines best reflect the spirit of the people who make them.

Sensory Description:

The palate is lively and energetic, driven by juicy red berry fruit layered with hints of pomegranate, rose petal, and cracked pepper. Grenache provides lift and aromatic charm, while Carignane contributes bright acidity and crunchy structure. Syrah rounds the blend with subtle spice and a touch of savory depth. The use of whole cluster fermentation and carbonic maceration preserves freshness and enhances the wine’s vibrant texture, resulting in a red that is supple, lifted, and effortlessly drinkable with a lightly chilled, fruit-forward profile.

Wiemaker’s Background:

Founded in 2002 by Kenny Likitprakong, Hobo Wine Company began with two barrels of Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel and a spirit of experimentation rather than a formal business plan. Over the years, the project has expanded into a diverse portfolio of wines sourced from numerous vineyard sites across California, all united by a commitment to thoughtful farming and transparent winemaking. The Folk Machine label emerged as the home for small production and often unconventional bottlings, evolving from an initial focus on Pinot Noir into a creative outlet for distinctive blends and lesser seen varietals. As a member of 1% for the Planet and a champion of organic and biodynamic farming, the winery reflects Likitprakong’s long-standing dedication to sustainability, community, and the enduring connection between vineyards, people, and place.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve slightly chilled at 55 to 60°F in a medium-sized red wine glass to highlight its aromatic lift and vibrant fruit. Its bright acidity and supple texture pair naturally with charcuterie, grilled sausages, roasted chicken, pizza, or vegetable-driven dishes such as grilled eggplant or mushroom flatbread.
