Sensory Description:

Deep ruby red in the glass, the 2020 Château Lescalle opens with expressive aromas of black plum, red fruits, stone fruits, and subtle bell pepper, layered with hints of vanilla and oak spice. The palate is full and fruit-forward, elegantly structured with restrained tannins that lend finesse without overpowering the wine’s vibrancy. A touch of minerality complements its ripe fruit core, leading into a smooth, well-integrated finish. With cellaring, expect further development into notes of ripe fruit, warm spices, and wood.

Awards & Accolades:

  • Gold Medal – Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (2023, 2020 Vintage)

Winemaker's Background:

Château Lescalle was founded in 1875 by Emmanuel Tessandier, who built the estate as a family home surrounded by vineyards in Macau at the beginning of the Haut-Médoc. Although Tessandier balanced vineyard life with his shipbuilding career in Le Havre, the château’s viticultural roots flourished. Today, the estate continues to produce wines in the classic Médoc style, maintaining sustainable viticulture practices and meticulous cellar work. With careful vineyard selection, thermo-regulated stainless steel fermentation, and traditional oak aging, Château Lescalle remains dedicated to crafting structured, elegant Bordeaux.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at 16–18 °C in a Bordeaux glass to highlight its fruit-forward aromas and structured palate. Ideal pairings include roast veal, tournedos, stuffed turkey, or rich mushroom dishes. Its approachable tannins also make it a versatile companion to a wide variety of classic French and Mediterranean recipes. This wine offers an aging potential of 5 to 10 years for those who prefer added complexity.

The 2020 Château Lescalle Bordeaux Supérieur is a wine that captures the heritage of Macau near Margaux, vibrant and fruit-driven, yet refined with structure and depth, making it an ideal Bordeaux for both immediate enjoyment and graceful cellaring.
