Corte Mainente Bianco Secco Veronese IGT, Veneto, Italy

Corte Mainente Bianco Secco Veronese IGT, Veneto, Italy

White melon, citrus blossom, and toasted almond rise from the glass with a quiet mineral tension that immediately signals the character of Garganega grown on hillside vineyards. 2023 Corte Mainente Bianco Secco Veronese IGT was crafted from mature Garganega vines planted on steep terraces overlooking the town, where soils of clay, volcanic fossils, and pale limestone shape a wine of structure and freshness. Produced with the straightforward cellar philosophy favored by the Mainente family, the wine reflects a tradition rooted in simplicity, patience, and the enduring stewardship of family vineyards.

Sensory Description:

Pale and luminous in the glass, the wine opens with aromas of white melon, orange zest, citrus peel, and delicate floral tones. The palate is lean and focused, offering flavors of green apple, melon, and subtle stone fruit framed by a distinctive note of bitter almond, a hallmark of Garganega. Mineral tones and bright acidity lend the wine a steely, refined structure reminiscent of cool climate Chardonnay, while maintaining the distinctive savory character associated with northern Italian whites. Light-bodied and precise, the finish is clean, refreshing, and quietly persistent.

Winemaker’s Background:

Corte Mainente is a small, family-run estate working less than ten hectares of vineyards. The Mainente family farms steep hillside parcels planted largely to Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave, with many vines reaching 60 to 80 years of age. Their cellar work reflects a restrained, traditional approach, favoring concrete fermentation and minimal intervention in order to preserve clarity of fruit and vineyard character. With the recent involvement of Ugo Mainente’s sons in the winery, the estate has begun gaining wider recognition while remaining committed to the generational values that shaped its reputation. Though modest in scale, Corte Mainente has attracted growing attention for wines that balance classic Veneto character with precision and authenticity.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve chilled at 8 to 10°C in a medium-sized white wine glass to highlight its delicate aromatics and mineral structure. Its lean profile and vibrant acidity make it a natural pairing for shellfish, grilled fish, fried seafood, vegetable dishes, or light salads with citrus vinaigrette. It also complements classic preparations such as salted cod, simple pasta with herbs, or grilled seasonal vegetables.
