Glengyle Distillery, founded in 1872 by William Mitchell, stands as a testament to Campbeltown’s whisky legacy. After closing in 1925, it lay dormant until 2000, when Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd, led by Hedley G Wright, a descendant of the founder, revived it with a vision to restore its heritage. Production resumed in 2004, birthing the Kilkerran range. The name "Kilkerran" is rooted in the Gaelic ‘Ceann Loch Chille Chiarain,’ honoring Campbeltown’s original name. Today, Glengyle is one of only three distilleries in the region, safeguarding Campbeltown’s protected status under the Scotch Whisky Regulations.
