Lagunitas Brewing Co. 'Hazicus Maximus' Hazy IPA Beer takes the colossal Double IPA framework of Maximus and sends it decisively into the haze. This year-round Hazy Double IPA weighs in at 9% ABV and 42 IBU, delivering the juicy grapefruit, dank hop character, substantial haze, and balanced smoothness that Lagunitas places at the center of the beer. Powerful yet composed, it is an unabashedly hop-forward release designed for drinkers who prefer their IPAs big, juicy, and expressive.

Sensory Description:

Hazicus Maximus leads with juicy grapefruit and assertive dank hop character, wrapped in the saturated aromatic profile expected from a modern Hazy Double IPA. Its substantial haze and 9% ABV give the beer a commanding presence, while Lagunitas emphasizes smoothness and balance alongside its considerable hop intensity. At 42 IBU, bitterness provides structure without overshadowing the beer's juicy character, leaving a bold, hop-driven impression from aroma through finish.

Brewer's Background:

Lagunitas Brewing Company began in 1993 when founder Tony Magee started brewing on a five-gallon homebrew system in Northern California. The brewery subsequently established its home in Petaluma and built its reputation around assertive, hop-forward beers, with IPA becoming central to its identity. HEINEKEN entered into a partnership with Lagunitas in 2015 and acquired full ownership in 2017, with Lagunitas continuing as a distinct brewing operation within the larger group. Today, Brewmaster Jeremy Marshall leads brewing in Petaluma as Head BrewMonster. Hazicus Maximus extends the brewery's longstanding fascination with IPA, taking inspiration from Maximus while moving toward a hazier, juicier interpretation of the Double IPA format.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at 7 to 9 degrees Celsius in an IPA or tulip glass to give its grapefruit and dank hop aromatics room to develop. Pair with spicy fried chicken, barbecue ribs, loaded burgers, carnitas tacos, sharp cheddar, or blue cheese. Its combination of substantial strength, juicy hop character, and balancing bitterness also works particularly well with rich, spicy, and boldly seasoned foods.
