Distiller's Background:

Hombo Shuzo Co., established in 1872, originally focused on shochu production before expanding into whisky in 1949. In 1984, the company relocated its whisky-making to Shinshu Distillery in the mountainous town of Miyada, Nagano. Surrounded by Japan’s Southern and Central Alps and situated over 2,600 feet above sea level, the distillery leverages cooler temperatures and mineral-rich water to achieve slow, nuanced maturation. After a brief pause in production during the 1990s, the distillery resumed in 2012 and has since become a respected name in Japanese whisky, with the Komagatake line serving as its flagship single malt.
