Sensory Description:

2024 Mas Carlot "Generations" Costieres de Nimes Rose opens with lifted aromas of raspberry, wild strawberry, watermelon, pink citrus, and soft Mediterranean herbs. The palate is supple and medium-bodied, carrying red berry fruit with a clean, crisp line and a gentle savory note that keeps the wine firmly dry. Grenache gives the blend its generous fruit, Syrah adds shape and aromatic depth, and Cinsault brings freshness and delicacy. The result is a poised rosé with both immediacy and structure, showing the sunlit ripeness of the southern Rhône in a restrained, finely balanced register.

Producer’s Background:

Mas Carlot is a historic Provençal mas with roots reaching back centuries, with Roman remains found near the property and the current buildings dating to the 17th century. The estate was restored in the modern era by Paul Blanc and later further developed by his daughter Nathalie Blanc, an oenologist who led the domaine for two decades. Since 2018, Cyril Marès has directed Mas Carlot, bringing with him formal training in agronomy, viticulture, and oenology from Montpellier, harvest experience in California and Chile, and deep family roots in southern French winegrowing. Under his leadership, the estate completed its transition to certified organic farming, and his broader role in the region has extended to serving as president of the Costières de Nîmes growers’ syndicate, reflecting both his local standing and his commitment to the appellation.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve well chilled, around 46 to 50°F, in a medium white wine glass or all-purpose stem to preserve its freshness while allowing the aromatics to open. Its crisp, dry profile makes it especially well suited to tapas, grilled shrimp, summer salads, charcuterie, vegetable dishes from the grill, and simply prepared fish. It also works beautifully with cheese boards and warm-weather aperitif service when a rosé with both brightness and substance is wanted.
