Black raspberry, ripe plum, garrigue herbs, and cracked pepper introduce 2021 Famille Chaussy-Laget Vignerons Chateauneuf-du-Pape, a Grenache-led southern Rhône red that balances depth with lifted freshness. Produced by the Chaussy family at their long-standing estate, Mas de Boislauzon, this wine reflects generations of vineyard stewardship and a traditional cellar approach centered on concrete fermentation and patient élevage. With six generations of the Chaussy family involved in the estate, the wine carries forward a legacy rooted in family continuity and the enduring character of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Sensory Description:

2021 Famille Chaussy-Laget Vignerons Chateauneuf-du-Pape opens with aromas of dark cherry, black raspberry, dried thyme, and warm spice. On the palate the wine unfolds with layers of plum, kirsch, and red berries framed by subtle notes of smoke, pepper, and Provençal herbs. Grenache provides richness and supple fruit while Mourvèdre contributes structure and savory depth, with a small portion of Syrah adding spice and aromatic lift. The texture is polished and generous yet balanced, finishing with lingering red fruit and gentle earth-toned complexity characteristic of classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Winemaker’s Background:

Mas de Boislauzon is a historic family estate located in the northern sector of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation and managed by the Chaussy family for more than six generations. Today, the winery is led by siblings Daniel Chaussy and Christine Chaussy, with Daniel directing the cellar and Christine overseeing the commercial side of the estate. The domaine farms parcels spread across multiple lieux-dits and cultivates its vineyards under certified organic practices with biodynamic methods increasingly integrated into vineyard work. Known for wines that emphasize the traditional southern Rhône blend dominated by Grenache, the estate combines old vines, diverse soils, and classic cellar techniques to produce wines that reflect the depth and aromatic character of the appellation.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve slightly below room temperature, around 60°F, in a large red wine glass to allow the wine’s aromatics and spice to fully open. Its structure and savory depth pair naturally with roasted lamb, grilled beef, duck, braised short ribs, wild mushroom dishes, and herb-driven Mediterranean cuisine. Decanting for about one hour will allow the wine to soften and reveal its layered fruit and spice.
