Juicy red and black cherry, raspberry, and violet lead into a concentrated, fleshy palate shaped by bright acidity and a subtle herbal finish. The 2023 Guillot-Gonin Morgon Côte du Py comes from three parcels of very old Gamay vines on the steep southeast face of the Côte du Py, where granite and weathered schist contribute structure and depth. Hand-harvested and raised for 15 months in tank, it reflects Corinne Gonin and Jean-Philippe Guillot's approach to farming and vinification, grounded in five generations of family winegrowing in Beaujolais.

Sensory Description:

Deep garnet in the glass, with an expressive combination of juicy red and black cherry, raspberry, violet, blackcurrant, and blackberry. The palate is densely packed yet remains vibrant, carrying ripe fruit through a fleshy, concentrated texture balanced by mouthwatering acidity. Floral lift keeps the fruit energetic, while a restrained woody-herb note adds a savory edge toward the finish. Structured without losing succulence, the wine closes with freshness and a firm profile that should soften and develop further with bottle age.

Winemaker's Background:

Domaine Guillot-Gonin brings together two longstanding Beaujolais winegrowing families whose history in the region reaches back to 1805. Five generations have worked the domaine, with the grandparents of Corinne Gonin and Jean-Philippe Guillot among the early growers to deliver their bottled wines directly to Lyon's bistros and bouchons during the 1950s. Today, Corinne and Jean-Philippe farm approximately 35 hectares across several Beaujolais crus, practicing reasoned viticulture and overseeing the wines from cultivation through vinification and bottling. Their Côte du Py comes from three steep parcels of very old goblet-trained vines, giving the domaine a direct expression of one of Morgon's most distinctive hillside sites.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at approximately 16 degrees Celsius in a Burgundy-style red wine glass. A brief period of air can help open the fruit and floral aromatics when served young, while further bottle age should soften its structured profile. Pair with coq au vin, roast duck or chicken, grilled or roasted red meats, mushroom dishes, game in sauce, or moderately mature soft cheeses such as Saint-Nectaire and Munster.
