Sensory Description:

The 2023 vintage opens with an elegantly perfumed bouquet, violets, crushed berries, red currant, and hints of mountain herbs drifting over a subtle mineral core. On the palate, the wine is crisp, juicy, and velvety, showcasing the lighter, more vertical profile typical of Alto Piemonte. Red berry fruit merges with floral lift and a whisper of spice, carried by fine tannins and a clean, mineral-driven finish. Enjoying the wine slightly cool enhances its freshness and highlights its irresistible drinkability.

Winemaker's Background:

Le Piane is the life’s work of Christoph Künzli, who revived the long-faded vineyards of Boca in the 1990s with the late enologist Alexander Trolf. Guided by tradition and inspired by the extraordinary potential of volcanic soils, the estate gradually expanded from a forgotten half-hectare to a thriving 8 hectares of Nebbiolo and Vespolina. Ancient vineyards once tended by local legend Antonio Cerri now form the heart of Le Piane’s production, expressing the purity, fragrance, and energy that define Alto Piemonte. The estate is run by a small, dedicated team committed to meticulous farming and clean, transparent winemaking.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve slightly chilled at 16–18°C with mushroom risotto, roasted chicken, charcuterie, mild game dishes, grilled vegetables, terrines, or semi-aged cheeses. Its freshness also makes it a perfect companion for late-afternoon snacks and simple, soulful meals.

It delivers Nebbiolo in its purest, most delicious everyday form, vibrant, elegant, and deeply tied to the volcanic hills from which it comes. This is Alto Piemonte at its most honest: a wine of finesse, drinkability, and quiet complexity that disappears from the glass far too quickly.
