Lady of the Sunshine Pinot Noir - Sauvignon Blanc Rose, Edna Valley, California

Lady of the Sunshine Pinot Noir - Sauvignon Blanc Rose, Edna Valley, California

Expert's Choice Somm Says

Wild strawberry, pink citrus, white flowers, and coastal herbs rise from the glass with brightness and textural depth. 2025 Lady of the Sunshine Pinot Noir - Sauvignon Blanc Rosé captures the tension between California sunshine and cold Pacific influence through biodynamically farmed Pinot Noir and organically grown Sauvignon Blanc sourced from two distinct SLO Coast vineyard sites. Foot-tread fruit, native fermentation, extended lees aging, and restrained cellar handling give the wine both energetic freshness and layered complexity, reflecting Gina Giugni’s transparent and site-driven approach to natural winemaking.

Sensory Description:

The wine opens with watermelon, wild strawberry, pink grapefruit, and white peach layered with jasmine, sea spray, and subtle herbal tones. Pinot Noir contributes delicate red fruit, structure, and mineral tension, while Sauvignon Blanc adds citrus lift and aromatic energy. Extended lees aging builds texture through the mid-palate without diminishing freshness, and the finish remains saline, vibrant, and quietly savory with lingering coastal minerality.

Producer’s Background:

Lady of the Sunshine was founded by Gina Giugni in 2017 as an extension of her commitment to biodynamic farming, regenerative agriculture, and transparent winemaking on California’s Central Coast. A second-generation biodynamic farmer, Giugni works closely with cool-climate coastal vineyards shaped by marine influence, elevation, and living soils. Together with her husband Mikey Giugni, she farms more than 40 acres across the SLO Coast, including the ocean-adjacent Bassi Vineyard acquired in 2024. The wines are produced with native fermentations, minimal additions, and unfiltered bottling, emphasizing vitality, texture, and the expressive purity of each site.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve lightly chilled at 10 to 12 degrees Celsius in a universal wine glass to highlight aromatic lift and texture. Pair with oysters, grilled prawns, crudo, spring vegetables, goat cheese, or Mediterranean dishes with herbs and citrus. Its freshness and savory mineral profile also make it especially compelling as an aperitif wine.
