Lemon, green apple, ripe citrus, and a light touch of brioche open with crisp energy and a distinctly chalky finish. Robert de Pampignac Brut is a non-vintage Champagne created within the Rapeneau family’s group of Champagne houses, bringing together Pinot Noir, Meunier, and Chardonnay in an approachable expression shaped by traditional bottle fermentation and extended lees aging. Its understated label conceals a deeper connection to one of Champagne’s long-established family wine groups, balancing accessibility with classic regional technique.

Sensory Description:

Pale yellow in the glass, the wine leads with lemon, ripe citrus, green apple, and yellow plum, followed by subtle apricot and lightly toasted notes. The palate is dry and lively, with fine mousse and bright acidity carrying the fruit toward a gently mineral, chalk-inflected finish. A restrained brioche character adds depth without obscuring the wine’s fresh citrus profile, giving the cuvée a balanced and versatile style.

Producer’s Background:

Robert de Pampignac is best understood not as a stand-alone grower estate, but as a Champagne brand connected to the Rapeneau family’s wider group of houses. The family acquired historic Champagne Charles Orban in Troissy at the end of the twentieth century and subsequently developed Robert de Pampignac as a second label intended to offer a more accessible expression of Champagne. The Robert de Pampignac trademark is held by Champagne G.H. Martel et Cie, the Reims house acquired by Ernest Rapeneau in 1979 and still controlled by successive generations of the family. Current market records also identify La Maison du Champagne in Épernay, managed by Vincent Rapeneau, as the producing entity. Across the group, Chef de Cave Christophe Rapeneau oversees a Champagne tradition grounded in family ownership, blending, and long-established relationships with growers throughout the region.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees Celsius in a tulip-shaped Champagne glass to preserve the mousse while allowing the citrus, orchard-fruit, and lightly toasted aromas to develop. Enjoy as an aperitif or pair with oysters, shellfish, blinis, sushi, fried seafood, roast chicken, white fish, or mild creamy cheeses. Its combination of acidity, moderate dosage, and savory mineral character makes it particularly adaptable at the table.
