Sensory Description:

Pale straw-yellow with delicate green reflections, this expressive Retsina immediately reveals aromas of fresh pine resin, mastiha, citrus zest, and ripe peach. Layers of eucalyptus, mint, thyme, and rosemary add Mediterranean complexity, creating an aromatic profile that is both distinctive and inviting. On the palate, vibrant citrus flavors mingle with white-fleshed orchard fruits and subtle herbal nuances. The wine is fresh, balanced, and gently textured, with moderate acidity, a rounded mouthfeel, and a clean, persistent finish marked by delicate resinous character.

Winemaker's Background:

Founded in 1982, Markogianni Winery is a family-owned estate dedicated to preserving and promoting Greece's indigenous grape varieties and winemaking traditions. Located in Olympia in the western Peloponnese, the winery has farmed its vineyards organically since 2001, guided by a philosophy centered on environmental stewardship and authentic expression of terroir. Alongside classic Greek varieties such as Roditis and Koliniatiko, the family cultivates a diverse range of grapes while producing wines that celebrate both innovation and heritage. Their playful "The Cricket and The Ant" series reflects the winery's commitment to making traditional Greek wines approachable, vibrant, and enjoyable.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve well chilled at approximately 50°F (10°C). This versatile Retsina pairs beautifully with fried cod and skordalia, fried mussels with tartar sauce, grilled seafood, calamari, Greek salads, roasted chicken with lemon and herbs, green olives, feta cheese, and Mediterranean vegetable dishes. Its refreshing acidity and herbal complexity also make it an excellent aperitif.
