Wild strawberry and raspberry meet citrus, delicate florals, and subtle spice, carried by a taut mineral structure and a long, saline finish. The 2021 Marguet Pere & Fils 'Shaman' Grand Cru Extra Brut Rosé combines 76% Chardonnay and 24% Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru villages of Ambonnay and Bouzy, with the 2021 harvest forming the core of the blend alongside reserve wine. Vinified and matured in oak without added sulfur and finished at zero dosage, Shaman Rosé reflects Benoît Marguet's biodynamic farming and highly individual pursuit of purity, energy, and transparent expression in Champagne.

Sensory Description:

Crisp wild strawberry and raspberry lead the aromatic profile, joined by floral lift, citrus, and a subtle spicy accent. The palate opens with lively precision before developing a silky, vinous texture, with red berries and orange zest held in tension by bright acidity and pronounced mineral character. The fruit remains vivid and finely detailed through a long, saline finish, with the absence of dosage emphasizing the wine's dry, energetic structure.

Winemaker's Background:

Champagne Marguet is led by fifth-generation grower and winemaker Benoît Marguet in Ambonnay, where he has developed an intensely vineyard-focused approach centered on biodynamic agriculture and minimal intervention in the cellar. His work emphasizes soil vitality and the individuality of the vineyards, while cellar practices favor indigenous fermentation, extensive use of oak, very limited inputs, and little to no added sulfur. Shaman is one of the estate's defining cuvées, built around a principal harvest with reserve wine adding dimension and continuity; Shaman Rosé 21 brings together Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru villages of Ambonnay and Bouzy. Barrel vinification and maturation, zero dosage, and the absence of added sulfur place the emphasis on fruit, texture, mineral tension, and the character of these chalk-rich vineyards, reflecting Marguet's broader pursuit of expressive, energetic Champagne with as little mediation as possible.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at approximately 9 to 11 degrees Celsius in a tulip-shaped Champagne glass or medium-sized white wine glass to encourage its red-fruit, floral, citrus, and mineral character to develop. Pair with grilled salmon and sorrel sauce, tuna or salmon tartare, langoustines, roast duck, charcuterie, roasted beets, or mild sheep's and goat cheeses. Its vinous texture and saline finish make it particularly well suited to the table, while its zero-dosage structure provides enough freshness for an aperitif.
